For weeks, the one corner dance move has been trendy on the internet to various reactions. The dance originated in Ghana from a song titled “One Corner”. The song was released by a street artist named Patapaa, he features upcoming Ghanian artists, Ras Cann and Mr Loyalty and was produced by Morgan Beat. One Corner is sung in a mix of English and Patapaa’s local dialect, it translates to dancers getting to move as they like soon as the song comes up.
“wobete dwii (one corner) 3×
Eye pee (one corner) 3×
la prasseur mesion…
U see sey i catch u (koti catch u)”
This is how it begins, a group of people sitting somewhere, a room, a park, a garage carrying out one activity or the other, are called in by a song. Every one takes position. One grabs a chair, another a tree, it could be a table or a pole or even the waist of another fellow one corner dancer. Any position is okay as long as you are having make-believe sex; making suggestive moves such as banging one’s bosom against any surface.
The go fuck yourself phenomena has finally gotten a use case.
“One Corner” got major buzz after a video of him and his ‘soldiers’ performed it at the annual Akwambo Festival, in his native Agona Swedru, receiving several views.
While it has been endorsed by Ghanian celebrities such as Shatta Wale and Bola Ray, some still think it is the craziest and probably the most useless dance to trend on the internet. However, like the other dance moves before it such as azonto, Nigerians have caught this new virus and making even more daring moves. Popular artist Reekado banks shared a video of him dancing to it in the studio. Yomi Casual, younger brother to Comedian AY at his wedding days ago, had his groomsmen display “The One Corner Dance”.
Everyone in Nigeria has been dancing to the one corner tune, are you dancing to it to?
