The Wedding Party 2-Destination Duibai released on December 15 has raked over N500 million in just six weeks in the cinemas, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film. The managing director of FilmOne Distribution Comapany and of of the producers of the movie, Kene Mkparu disclosed this in a Wednesday interview with NAN.
He said, ‘Wedding Party 1, cost us over N150 million to make, plus publicity, and the Part 2 cost us N300 million…The Wedding Party 2 has generated over N500 million as at today and is now in cinemas across different countries, including England, and Holland and some French- speaking African countries…We believe you have to spend money to make money, and if you can show from your business plan how you would recoup this money, the banks are willing to give you.’
The success of the WP2 has further proven the ripeness of the Nigerian film industry. This was evident when it grossed in N73 million within the first few days of its opening, dethroning 30 days in Atlanta as the highest grossing Nigerian movie despite the negative reviews that followed up its release.
